With it’s combination of sharp, angular aesthetics, great performance and outstanding value, RIDI Lighting’s SQL Range has proved to be the ideal product for the new Hair and Beauty Department at Croydon College.

 Currently undergoing extensive refurbishment throughout the College Road Site, the college’s stylish new Hair and Beauty Department (as well as the Coulthards Restaurant) is a key element in the first phase of a project designed to renovate the college’s West Wings. Reigate-based building services consultant Michael Jones & Associates had previously been involved in refurbishing two wings of the building, and were recommissioned to undertake these two new areas. The lighting design for the Hair and Beauty Department was driven by the need for the scheme to integrate seamlessly with the architectural elements, and physical requirements, of the Hair and Beauty department. RIDI’s SQL was chosen as the luminaire most capable of satisfying these criteria, whilst also providing an attractive complement to the interior décor.

“The completed lighting scheme has achieved the overall design objectives perfectly,” says Colin Maddox. “The RIDI luminaires look good, are manufactured to a high standard, and came at a reasonable cost – an impressive combination of qualities.”

Designed by Storp of Germany, the SQL range is a simple one-body design approach for a variety of installations. With versions to satisfy the requirements of both LG3a and LG7 office lighting standards, the SQL range has the versatility to meet the diverse lighting requirements of the modern work-place in a distinctive and individual fashion. Offering excellent light distribution through parabolic louvres or micro-prismatic low-glare lenses, this high-grade extruded aluminium luminaire range includes floor-standing, ceiling and pendant mounted models, as well as wall-mounted versions - all of which showcase the same classic angular design. The luminaire styling blends equally well into modern furnished installations, as well as into more elaborate ‘architectural’ interiors. Finished in textured titanium grey finish, the luminaires are available in T5 or TC-L lamp combinations.

o complete the project RIDI also supplied a wide range of recessed downlighters from their new revised EBD range. These were offered with various decorative glass trims and lamp types and were used to provide a contrast in task lighting in and around all the bulkhead and suspended ceiling areas.
