RIDI
LIGHTS THE WAY FOR BT
RIDI Lighting
Ltd could be on a winner with BT after becoming the only company
able to design and deliver a light package to fit the company's
'Workstyle 2000' guidelines.
The landmark project
at the refurbishment of the four-storey BT Friary House in Southampton
is currently being accessed by BT Property (a division of BT) for
the company's future building designs. BT's 'Workstyle 2000' guidelines
dictate all office environments should be atmospheric combined with
Cat 2 display screen equipment lighting.
To meet these
requirements RIDI supplied BT with slimline T5 luminaires, complete
with Tridonic's energy efficient Dimmable Excel ballast and Setsquare's
ALD sensors that fitted neatly into the building's unusual ceilings
and shallow void areas. This is the first time Tridonic has supplied
such ballasts into a 600x600 modular luminaire.
More than 900
staff on floors one, two and three, working in BT's call centre
or network management departments can work in spacious well lit
environments where bright daylight can be brought in utilised and
artificial lighting dimmed to save energy. Setsquare's sensors send
messages to the ballasts informing them when and by how much the
T5 category luminaires should be dimmed. These luminaires provided
exceptional uniformity with a pre set level of 400 lux.
To create an all
round effect and ambience RIDI also supplied BT with downlighters
that served to create a feeling of open space by softly lighting
the curved walls that surround the central core and utility areas
of the open plan floors. The downlighters in with decor glass, situated
in the reception area and Bistro on the ground floor also create
a warm relaxed atmosphere for visitors and staff alike. To create
a different emphasis, meeting rooms were finished off with louvred
Cat 2 downlighters.
Peter North from
BT commented: "RIDI provided us with a well built product that
met all our requirements at the right price. The company also kept
all its promises which is equally important. I would certainly recommend
RIDI for future BT projects."
