| Miela-SG luminaires from RIDI Lighting, installed at London Underground’s new office premises, are demonstrating the key benefits that a well-designed lighting scheme can bring to the commercial office environment. LG3a compliant, the lighting scheme has helped to create a comfortable, productive and shadow-free environment for the organisation’s staff - operators of one the oldest and busiest underground transport networks in the world.
Located in the London ’s West End , the offices are laid out in a combination of open-plan and cellular office space. With a restricted amount of daylight available, building service consultant FHP required a luminaire solution to meet the latest Cibse LG3a and provide sufficient task lighting illumination whilst controlling computer screen glare. The MIELA-SG was chosen over other luminaires for its ability to deliver a combination of improved direct ceiling and wall illuminance, and an even spread of light to all surfaces. Over 200 MIELA SG were specified in total and have been installed in all areas throughout the busy office space.
“The MIELA-SG was the perfect luminaire choice for this project,” comments Jeff Cook of FHP. “It offers the right proportions of up and downlighting and takes away all the black holes you normally associate with CAT2 schemes. Alongside this you also get glare-free performance – it’s a great luminaire solution for commercial office sector.”
Manufactured in Germany , the MIELA-SG was designed by RIDI UK in response to the LG3 addendum in order to liberate the traditional office environment from poor light distribution and oppressive shadow patterns. The design incorporates a new type of parabolic high-efficiency micro-louvre set within the primary reflector to increase the direct light component. This feature also helps achieve a more enhanced performance than can traditionally be achieved from a recessed luminaire. The design also includes a reeded matt aluminium gull-wing reflector that ensures the uniform spread of vertical illumination, glare-free performance and a high level of visual comfort. The latest versions also feature a variable control baffle to regulate the amount of uplight produced within the luminaire.
The Miela SG has a slimline 60mm body depth making it ideal for installation in shallow ceiling voids. The universal recessed body is compatible with exposed/concealed ‘T’, plasterboard ceilings and a range of lamp options is available for T5 and TC-L fluorescent lamps. The range incorporates options for air handling versions and an integral 3-hour emergency conversion.
