Control 3

Building-wide, networked lighting control

Control 3 is an IP linked comprehensive DALI lighting control system.  It is based on the powerful Control 3 processor, a stand alone lighting controller that is designed to be integrated onto your building's IP network.

Once connected, anyone on the network can view and adjust the lighting system; as long as they have a standard web browser and, of course, the login details.

DALI Control - Expanded

Control 3 provides comprehensive functionality and energy saving.  The system is simple to install, cost effective and built around standard protocols.

Control 3 is based on DALI, the industry standard for dimmable addressable light fittings.  There is an inherent limitation with DALI that a maximum of 64 devices can be connected to a DALI bus.  Control 3 overcomes this limitation by joining the DALI networks together through the Control 3 processor, this means that there are no limits to the size of the installation and that any device on the network can interact in conjunction with any other.

By joining standard DALI devices to the Control 3 processor, we can add infinitely more intelligence to the control system.  DALI is at heart simply a control protocol - a way to talk to the light fittings.

The software inside the Control 3 processor is what really sets it apart.  You're no longer limited to the basic control functions and limitations built into DALI. See the features Control 3 offers...

Installation - Simplified

Wiring of Control 3 is easy to understand and easy to install.  Lights get a permanent mains supply and in addition there's a two core control bus (DALI) which connects to all the devices on the system.  You just have to make sure there's not more than 63 DALI devices on any one DALI run.

Every device connects to the same bus, whether its a light fitting, sensor, scene plate, switch input or emergency fitting.  There's no separate types os cable for different types of device.  The cable itself is just a 1.5mm mains rated pair, and it can be run alongside the mains in the same containment.

All the switching and control is done by messages sent over the control bus, which means that grouping and switching is entirely independent of the power circuiting.  Because of this, if you need to make changes to the building layout in the future, no wiring needs to be changed.

Every DALI component on the system is configured directly through the Control 3 software and serves a multitude of functions.  This makes each one very flexible, and as a result there are only a few different component types required for almost every type of project.

Energy Saving

Daylight Harvesting

A room with daylight is more natural and comfortable to work in.  It also means that less artificial light is needed.  Automatic dimming and switching of the lighting maintains the right lighting levels and reduces energy usage.

Presence & Absence Detection

Using presence detection, lights switch on and off automatically with occupancy.  With absence detection, lights need to be switched on manually but still switch off automatically.

Smart Circulation

We don't hold on a whole building's corridors and circulation areas, jut because one office is occupied.  Smart Circulation puts a bubble of light around building users so that they never enter a dark corridor or stairwell, but it minimises the lit area to save energy.

Time Control

Lighting output and settings can be timed to match your building's usage.  Each area can respond to the type of usage based on day and time.

Maintenance Factor Compensation

Your building will be overlit when new lighting is first installed.  The is due to the maintenance factor, a value built into the lighting design to ensure that at the end of their useful life, lamps and luminaires still provide sufficient illumination.  Control 3 is able to take this into account and reduce dial back the light output on day one ensuring areas are correctly lit and saving energy in the process.

Energy Monitoring

The system constantly monitors and records the output of each light fitting.  The resulting graph of power usage can be viewed for any areas within the building, allowing you to fine tune the settings for the best use of resources.

Scene Setting and Sequences

Change the mood or function of a room at the touch of a button.  And you can fine tune those scenes any time using the simple web based UI built right into each Control 3 system.  Used with RGB luminaires we can create sequences of changing colour.

AV Integration

Connect to with your AV system so that at a touch of button the blinds will close, the projector and sound system will switch on and of course the perfect light level will be set.

Smartphone Control

With Control 3 on your network, you can have control of your lighting direct from your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Daylight is never static, it changes in colour and intensity from dawn to dusk. Used with RIDI's tuneable white luminares, Control 3 is able to mimic this cycle to promote wellbeing.

Emergency Light Testing

Emergency lights are automatically tested with both functional and duration tests.  The test results are stored in the system and can be accessed via a web browser or sent via email.

Fault Monitoring

Control3 constantly checks all the DALI devices in the building.  Should a fault occur, such as a lamp failure, a severed cable or power outage it will immediately raise a fault alarm and if required notify you by email.

BMS Integration

Control 3 is able to easily integrate with Building Management Systems (BMS), passing information such as occupancy status, light levels emergency testing results and fault alarms to a Trend or BACnet system.

Occupancy monitoring

Control 3 knows where people are in your building and records that information for you.  For each area you can see when people are present and get an indication of how busy that area is.  Great information for building managers and retail operators.
